We went on a field trip to Göksu to collect core samples for the c-Blues project which focuses on understanding the carbon sequestration in blue ecosystems. Special thanks to our collaborator Kale and his student Irene from Utrecht University for joining us.
ASLO 2024 conference held in Madison, Wisconsin, USA was a big success! Korhan, Masum, and Hasan presented their work
Big congratulations to Tekin on successfully defending his PhD thesis on Greenhouse gas dynamics of Saline lakes
Our team participated in the 15th International Conference on Salt lake research (ICSLR’24). Kudos to Meltem and Onat for their first poster presentation showcasing their research!
Korhan attended the online science festival organized by The Scientific And Technological Research Council Of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). He gave a talk on our research on Polar ecosystems and climate change.

We were honoured to host the representatives from central and local government to work on restoration actions that we envision for the Göksu Delta on 8-9 March. We are coordinating feasibility studies of the restoration actions in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. The participants included Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, Natural Heritage Preservation Board, Law Enforcement (forces) as well as our team of researchers. The meeting included productive meetings and workshops and a fieldwork to observe ecosystems and their problems the first hand. Göksu Delta is an exceptional coastal ecosystem and we hope to facilitate a pioneering ecological restoration effort for the coming years.
Korhan was a guest speaker on “All Aspects of Science” a METU youtube live broadcast. He talked about ecology and environmental science, our research project on high altitude and high lattitude ecosystems,, climate change as well as experimental ecology. Korhan will be presenting the next episode of the program with Çiğdem Atakuman, the next guest speaker, at METU Main Campus, Ankara.

Korhan was a guest speaker of the ITU Journal Talks and gave a talk about climate change’s effects on polar and high-altitude ecosystems. In his speech, it was discussed climate change’s dramatic effects on biodiversity and impacts on sensitive ecosystems. Also, he mentioned observational approaches in ecology, experimental ecology, and his experiences in the Antarctic and Arctic Expeditions that he joined.

Mustafa gave an interview for National Press about Acıgöl which is located on the borders of Afyonkarahisar and Burdur, where there are nearly 200 bird species as well as endemic plant and animal species. Unfortunately, lake water levels has been detected very shallow and largely dried out, recently. We hope to contribute to protection of these sensitive ecosystems in our Saline Lakes project.
