We were honoured to host the representatives from central and local government to work on restoration actions that we envision for the Göksu Delta on 8-9 March. We are coordinating feasibility studies of the restoration actions in collaboration with  the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. The participants included Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, Natural Heritage Preservation Board, Law Enforcement (forces) as well as our team of researchers. The meeting included productive meetings and workshops and a fieldwork to observe ecosystems and their problems the first hand. Göksu Delta is an exceptional coastal ecosystem and we hope to facilitate a pioneering ecological restoration effort for the coming years.

Korhan was a guest speaker on “All Aspects of Science” a METU youtube live broadcast. He talked about ecology and environmental science, our research project on high altitude and high lattitude ecosystems,, climate change as well as experimental ecology. Korhan will  be presenting the next episode of the program with Çiğdem Atakuman, the next guest speaker, at METU Main Campus, Ankara.

An expedition for the project to understand catchment sea interactions has been made in the last days of 2021 by our SGD Team. We collected 228-Radium, Barium, nutrient, and sediment samples on the field expedition throughout southeastern Turkey from nearby wells and eight of the largest rivers.

Göksu Delta monitoring field surveys are going on for the conservation. Our team is regularly collecting samples and making analyses in different regions of the delta.

Korhan was a guest speaker of Teens on Pole which is a eTwinning Project and gave a talk about climate change and destroyed ecosystems.
